Models Working Hard for Their $$$

Suvi Kuponen hangs topless over Hanne-Gaby Odiele in a beauty shoot photographed by Paola Kunacki from Purple Magazine.

Elle Macpherson Loves Her Some Victoria Beckham... Or Elle Loves Getting Paid?

Supermodel-turned-actress Elle Macpherson wore outfits from Victoria Beckham's new clothing line on the set of the CW show, the Beautiful Life.

The first sighting occurred this Thursday, when Macpherson was seen wearing the same dress that Beckham wore while shooting an ad for her clothing line in London. Then again, on Friday, Macpherson wore a similar Giral strapless black silk dress to Beckham. Beckham wore this outfit while guest-starring as a judge on American Idol. Elle wore the same black sunglasses and purple pumps during both days of shooting.

Coincidence? We think not...

Kristen McMenamy & Black Cats Featured in Lanvin's Fall '09 Collection

Well-known fashion photographer Steven Meisel shot the provocative Fall '09 Lanvin ad seen above. The ads feature model Kristen McMenamy in a series of poses on a couch with two black cats.

Refinery 29 named the ad "Best Use of Cat As Fashion Prop," and we agree.

House Of Jazmin

An entire MTV show devoted to... a teenage girl?

At first thought, it's scary. But the more I think about it, the more I don't actually mind the idea.

House of Jazmin is about Jazmin, a 20 year old fashion designer who creates a line named Li Cari. MTV follows her around while she sketches, cuts, sews, styles, and even put her own tags on the clothes she makes.

Yes she may say "like"a lot but... like, whatever.

I'll be tuning in, or... at least my DVR will.

The first episode airs on August 18th MTV @ 10:30 PM.

Tracie Egan Vs. The Cut on Gays Are To Blame for Fashion's Troubles

Tracie Egan bashes gay males who think they know what women want. See below for an article on her response to Perez Hilton.

Side note: Perez called Tracie a "d-bag" and started his own fashion blog: cocoperez.com.

The Cut wrote burning rebuttal to Tracie's opinions.

Read both blog posts below.

Tracie Egan -
"Are Gay Designers Responsible For All Of Fashion’s Problems?"

It’s hard not to hate Perez Hilton. Dude can be a real d-bag. So, when Jezebel blogger Tracie Egan wrote on her own blog that she’s not nervous about Hilton’s new CocoPerez “lady blog,” we were pretty much in agreement. After all, Jezebel is pretty awesome as far as the feminist blog set goes, and Perez Hilton draws penises on women’s faces. But Egan moved quickly from criticizing Perez for thinking he “gets” women to bitching about gay men in general. According to Egan, gay men are to blame for most of the problems in the fashion industry.

She writes: “I think that gay men are actually the most to blame for many of the problems in the fashion industry, like the absence of womanly curves on the runway, and the hideous, figure-assaulting trend that is the tent dress, which no women who have tits, and no straight men who have an appreciation for tits, have any use for.”

Tent dresses generally aren’t terribly sexy, and sometimes runway shows do some serious figure-assaulting, but blaming gay male designers is a bit of a stretch, no? Yes, they contribute, but some of the most self-described “flaming” designers out there also design some of the most feminine collections of Fashion Week year after year.

The big boys that come to mind are Dior designer John Galliano (he of the painted-on eyebrows and ruffled tops) and Alexander McQueen. Galliano’s shows are consistently rife with nip-waisted skirts that flow into rather feminine fuller bottoms, sheath dresses that are all about the lady body bits and other such girl-y items. McQueen, too, is way into women looking like women in his clothes.

Admittedly, both put out a fair number of body-disguising pieces, but those are generally the more conceptual, couture pieces. They’re not actually intended to be mainstays of the collection.

So, Tracie, go ahead and rip on Perez. We’re with you sis. But please, leave the fashion gay boys alone!

The Cut - "Tracie Egan Blames Gay Men for ‘Many’ of the Fashion Industry’s Problems"

Tracie Egan is a writer for Jezebel who has her own blog, "One D at a Time." In a post about why she doesn't fear competition from CocoPerez, Perez Hilton's new lady fashion site, she offers this aside:

I think that gay men are actually the most to blame for many of the problems in the fashion industry, like the absence of womanly curves on the runway, and the hideous, figure-assaulting trend that is the tent dress, which no women who have tits, and no straight men who have an appreciation for tits, have any use for.

It's hard to argue that gay male designers perpetuate the "tent"-dress trend any more than female designers or straight male designers. And it's hard not to admire Lanvin designer Alber Elbaz, who designed some of the most famous tent dresses in recent memory. Elbaz does not design clothes for straight men who "have an appreciation for tits." As Ariel Levy wrote in her New Yorker profile of the designer, he designs clothes "that a woman wears when she falls in love herself," not clothes "that will make a man fall in love with the woman who wears [them]."

As for the skinny-model issue, all of the top designers essentially pull from the same group of a couple hundred girls each season, who mostly have 34-inch hips and thighs smaller than arms. So you see the same skinny girls in all the top shows. Also, Marc Jacobs recently put Daisy Lowe, someone who may be slender but much more closely resembles real women than the typical runway fare, in a campaign. And who discovered Lara Stone and made her a star? Riccardo Tisci of Givenchy. The problems with the fashion industry may be many, but it seems unfair to place most of the blame on gay men when there are plenty of women and a handful of straight dudes working in it, too.

Kanye Should Stick To Music

For weeks there have been rumors that Kanye has been interning for Gap. Today the creative director of Gap, Patrick Robinson, squashed the rumors saying ""He’s not my intern!... He’s a friend of mine, and he just likes to see what we do. I tell him, if he wants people to take him seriously in fashion, they have to see blood first! They have to see the blood and the sweat, to see that he really wants it — but he definitely has the capability" Robinson also added "I keep telling him he should stick to music."

Sounds like something we have all been saying for some time. Although we are not keen on the idea of Kanye doing more than going to fashion shows, we are happy that he has been getting dirty and not just spending $$$ to become a fashion designer.

Yeah, Posh!

Anna Will be At London Fashion Week

When Burberry Prorsum, Jonathan Saunders, Matthew Williamson, Pringle of Scotland, and some other designers returned to London Fashion Week everyone wondered if Anna Wintour would give up her fashion show break in between shows in NY and shows in Milan. Word is out and the anser is... YES.

Jill Sanders is Back As +J

Back in March, Jill Sanders announced that she would be designing a collection under her new label +J. Sanders hasn't mentioned much about the collection's prices and looks until now.

The new +J collection will include 140 pieces: 100 looks for women and 40 looks for men. Prices are expected to start at an astonishingly-low $25. Perhaps we can thank the label's more than reasonable price points to the Jill Sanders company's fairly recent acquisition by the Prada Group.

Uniqlo will be carrying the +J collection, but has yet to schedule a date for the label's release. The only information the retailer will admit is that the launch is expected to occur some time in October.

Above are a few of the staples that will be for sale. We wait anxiously to see the rest and will post any updates we get right here.

Those who aren't lucky enough to live nearby a UNIQLO can always order on the phone. Give them a ring here: 1-877-4-UNIQLO

Target's Most Recent Collaboration

MARK YOUR CALENDARS...
On December 20th, 2009, Target.com will be launching its most recent collaboration.  With whom will they be collaborating with you ask??  RODARTE, silly!!!!!

In 2006, the Berkeley-educated sisters, Kate and Laura Mulleavy, debuted their first show in New York.  They were an instant HIT.  Their 55-piece collection will be released under Target's GO International label.  GO has already featured much lauded collaborations with designers such as Erin Fetherston, Jovovich-Hawk, Rogan, Richard Chai, Jonathan Saunders, Thakoon, and Tracy Feith.

We all loved the Mulleavy sisters' Fall '09 collection, which featured pieces that appeared to have first been made, then deconstructed, and finally reconstructed backstage right before the show (in a good way).  A pair of boots from this collection can be seen in the popular "These Heels Weren't Made For Walking" video.

The December 20th line-launch is perfectly timed to cause an online frenzy right before the holidays.  Fashionistas must hurry to get a hold of ridiculously cheap staple items, ranging from $9.99 knee-highs to $79.99 leopard print jackets.

M-K & A SHOE MANIA!!!

I think we can all agree that the first collection of shoes by Elizabeth and James (for Steve Madden) weren't the best, in fact I think I saw some better looking shoes at Payless (before Christian Seriano), but for their sophomore collection of footwear Mary-Kate and Ashley have stepped it UP and come out with a great collection. All a girl has to do is order one of every shoe and she would be covered for every look for an entire season.

M-K & A have taken out all the gladiators (THANK GOD) and added very sleak and stylish heels, boots, flats, and anything else you can think of: metal heels, spike heels, exposed zippers, rugged boots, lace...

The shoes are not available for purchase as of yet, but they are available for pre-order at SAKS.com

GREAT JOB LADIES!!!!

Christine Staub

If the last name sounds familiar its because she is the daughter of Danielle Staub, the woman we all loved to hate on Brovo's The Real Housewives of NJ... The Daily has announced that Christine has signed with IMG Models, who expects the 5'10'' 10th grader to be on runways by this upcoming fashion week.

Alexander McQueen Fall '09 With Karlie Koss

We LOVE LOVE LOVED the freakishness of Alexander McQueens fall '09 RTW runway show, and now we get a sneak peak of his Fall '09 campaign with model Karlie Kloss, who just celebrated her 17th B-Day at Walt Disney World!! She looks amazing and at JUST 17 she is burning up the pages of every top magazine in the world and blazing down almost every runway.
